For the last 2 years the Great Barrier Island Community Health Trust have organised  a Garden Tour here on the island as one of their major fundraisers and this has become a very popular event.  Tickets are now available for purchase.

TOURS:

Tour Nikau

Good basic fitness is required.  This tour will involve walking some distances but on relatively flat terrain. There are six gardens ranging from charming cottages to sweeping coastal panoramas. Geographically involves central and southern Great Barrier Island.


Tour Rewa          

A moderate fitness level required with the ability to walk up hills/multiple stairs with ease.  There are six gardens, ranging from charming cottages to sweeping coastal panoramas. Geographically involves central and southern Gt Barrier Island.



There are limited seats on these two tours.  The cost of these tours is $65.00 pp 

If you came on the Garden Tour last year and can't remember which tour you were on, please contact Gerry as she will be able to help you.

To secure your tickets, payment must be made at the time of booking.

If you would like to book a lunch consisting of a salad sandwich, a piece of slice and a piece of fruit the cost for this is $10 and payment must be made when making your booking.

Great Barrier Island is renown for small cottage artisans.  At some of the gardens there may be local produce and products to buy.  You will require cash for these purchases.

FRIDAY 26th November:  Currach Irish Pub (bookings essential) (09)4290211.  There will be some entertainment provided during the evening.

SATURDAY 27th November:  Garden Tour

SUNDAY 28th November:  10.00am Wild Rose Cafe Rose Competition, Tryphena  12.00 noon onwards at the Community Heritage & Arts Village Trust, Claris the SPECTACULAR BY NATURE ART EXHIBITION includes a market, live music, basket weaving, demonstration by a local group involved in propagating plants and the Kaitoke Primary School have a stall selling afternoon tea ..... plus lots more.
 

TRANSPORT TO THE ISLAND

$146.00 pp return from either Auckland Domestic Airport or Dairy Flat North Shore.

Flights times 7.45am, 10.15am, 4pm, and 6pm.

SEALINK FERRY SERVICE  (Special pricing for the Garden Tour)

Adults $96 pp return  Seniors (over 60 yrs) $76.80 pp return.

Bring a car and the driver will travel free! (pay $350, save $120)

Conditions

TRANSPORT ON ISLAND

This year a bus transfer service from Tryphena will be available to and from the Health Centre - $7 one way and $10 return.  The nearest pick-up point and time will be advised when your accommodation has been organised.  Or if you wish to hire a car for the weekend the contacts are:

FURTHER INFORMATION

To get the most out of the Tours you need a good level of fitness. Unfortunately those with moderate health disabilities will find the tours too difficult.

The tours will be on rain, hail or shine, unless Great Barrier Airlines Friday flights are cancelled in which case it will be postponed to Sunday or the following weekend.

Please bring a packed lunch, refreshments will be available OR if you have booked your lunch for $10 this can be collected when you register on the morning of the tour.  If you have food allergies please advise Gerry when you are making your bookings.

If wet bring gumboots/raincoat.

If hot remember sunscreen, hat or an umbrella.

It is recommended that you bring sturdy walking shoes as access to some properties is on uneven terrain.
 

Please be at the Health Centre (adjacent to the airport)
for registration by 9.00am ready to leave promptly at 9.15am.


We will have raffles and a lucky ticket prize so make sure you bring your tickets with you.

This is a Health Trust fundraiser to purchase medical equipment for our medical centre on Great Barrier Island.
