The brief information below is from the Dive Planet website.  Follow the links for detailed information about dive sites on Great Barrier Island and the Hauraki Gulf.

SS Wairarapa

This vessel has been down there for over 100 years and the most obvious sightings will include the steel keel and ribs taking on a new role habouring stunning marine life.  The boiler is visible along with shafts and other assorted debris.  The depth is around the 17 metre mark and the wreck is broken up so there is no penetration required.

SS Wiltshire

The Wiltshire is one of the oldest wrecks for divers to explore located off the SE of Great Barrier Island in a depth of 25 metres below at Rosalie bay.  Spread out over the sea floor and sitting in a depth of 9 to 25 metres.  Multiple entry points on this wreck, very small compartments. Extreme care should be taken when entering this ever-changing environment and should only ever be carried out by equally qualified penetration divers.   Excellent photography can be achieved in and around this wreck

Miners Head

This location is easy to find due to the green stains that run down the rock face from the copper deposits. Anyone venturing to this location should be aware of the strong currents that run here making it more of a spot for advanced divers.

Wellington Head

Photography can be good at times in this area depending on the time of year.

This area is best suited to advance divers due to the depths and currents that sweep through here.

Katherine Bay

Underwater and above the surface photography can be quite good here and there is the assortment of pelagic species that can be caught on film below the surface as schools of fish cruise past.

This dive site is suitable for divers of all levels having a vast choice of the possible dive options. The tide movement here can get quite a pull to it when it is running so a degree of care should be taken.

Arid Island

Arid Island is a fantastic place to venture out for a dive and the underwater photography here is awesome from pelagic species to shooting macro of the nudibranchs.

When the weather is against you there is always a safe haven to investigate without compromising the quality of dive to be had. The visibility here can get up to 30 meters but averages around 15 meters.
